There are several ways of exploring Mexico’s high country - trekking on foot, via four-wheel drive and on horseback to name just a few. But few are as interesting and as exhilarating as Llama trekking! Like their cousin the camel, llamas are hearty, yet reliable beasts of burden, and the back of a llama is a great place to be while exploring the still-virgin wilderness areas of northern New Mexico. The forests near Taos and Santa Fe are best conquered on the back of a llama. Guides will lead you and llama on an exhilarating trip through the majestic Sangre de Cristo Mountains.
There are a number of llama tour agencies available throughout Mexico. Make sure you team up with one that is licensed. Llama treks are an exciting experience for travelers of all ages and these excursions can last from one to several days through some of country’s only remaining ancient forests.
On the trail through Mexico’s rugged terrain these sure-footed creatures will carry your gear, while all around you the eco-system of Mexico’s northern or southern regions will make you wonder if this isn’t some kind of crazy dream.
On second thought, maybe it is. Because where else besides Mexico would find yourself on the back of a llama?
