Taiwan’s Cherry Blossom Festival
Every year during the late summer months Taiwan literally changes color as thousands of delicate little cherry blossoms come into bloom. This annual event is regularly celebrated in the form of the Cherry Blossom Festival which is held each year at Sun Moon Lake and it is an event that should not be missed!
The cherry blossom season is definitely one of the most colorful times of year since not only are these delightful little flowers present everywhere but it is also a time when seasonal colors are visible in almost every sort of flowering plant. Sun Moon Lake has long been known as being one of the best places to enjoy this natural diversity and it has also gained a reputation for being one of the most romantic places in the country. The reputation is well-earned and the beautiful flowers combined with the tranquil lakeside setting and the wonderful aromas certainly make for a romantic mood.
During the Festival the Aboriginal Culture Village, which is situated on the lake, will usually hold a few enjoyable festivals in honor of this great natural display. The first major event is the ‘Evening Cherry’ festival which usually takes place in February. During this time the blossoms are enjoying their seasonal peak and the amusement facilities at the village are available both day and night.
The second major festival is the ‘Flowers and Greenery’ Festival which is held over a long period of time – between February and April. The festival sees the gathering of a number of experienced horticulturalists making good use of their talents by carefully sculpting horticultural creations for the display. The displays may hail from different parts of the world and are always interesting to see.
Another option worth considering is the Forest Orchid Trail with its beautiful and mesmerizing variety of flowers. Clearly this is the best time of the year to visit Sun Moon Lake and you will find that there are a number of free shuttle bus services available to take you to the lake for the festival. So even if you didn’t manage to catch the festival this year, make sure that you remember to enjoy the many delights of the cherry blossom at the festival next year which undoubtedly be equally as enjoyable and memorable.
