World Economic Forum at Davos
It is not just about keeping up with the Joneses. Chances to rub shoulders with influential world leaders are passé. You might not even make it to any of the plenary sessions. The best parties with wild dancing and indulgent food and drink may exclude you altogether. You may wait in vain for cozy confabulations on grand new ventures, and return home with not a concrete penny bagged. Yet it is worth every Swiss Franc (dollars and Euros will do nicely as well, thank you) to be at Davos in winter.
Frankly, the hiking is better than the winter sports, if you have been to Davos in summer as well, and the French and Italian slopes offer far better value if you are a snow skiing enthusiast, in any case. Nevertheless, the ambience of Davos in winter has a special charm, and is sure to cast a spell on you to last forever. Most people, who have ever been to the World Economic Forum in Davos even once, cannot resist making it an annual feature (this habit is not for the poor, though inequality makes it to the official agenda on occasion!)
Though snow is always enchanting, and restful as well on the optically protected eye, it is shopping which really makes Davos in winter so special. The boutiques are not just tasteful and conveniently near each other, but so well stocked that you may find the most endearing and thoughtful gifts for dear ones left behind at home. The latter can only be of the minor variety, because the World Economic Forum deliberates on weight matters with spouses. So you need not worry about entering dates for the next round of working hard and partying harder at Davos, because for a change, your other half will gladly do this secretarial chore!
Davos is eclectic and egalitarian. Ruthless Swiss efficiency keeps the dogs of protest not just at bay, but well out of sight! You can confabulate, romance, deal, or whatever in engaging seclusion. Nowhere else can you find such a selection of the bold and the beautiful of the world: it is worth traveling galaxies and eons to see!
