When to go

The best time to visit Denmark is between May and September, when days are sunny and temperatures average 10 - 16°C. Winter temperatures average 0°C. Although temperate for its northern location, Denmark is often windy, and nights can be chilly even in summer. It is recommended to pack a sweater regardless of when you are planning to go.

Weather

Denmark has a temperate climate, but it can be humid, cloudy and bitterly cold in the winter. Summer in Denmark is cool with temperatures averaging around 10 - 16°C. It's never hot in Denmark so it's recommended that you pack warm clothes for your trip.

Visas and Passports

Citizens of Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, and the US do not need a visa for stays of up to 90 days. EU citizens do not need a visa. All visitors need a passport to enter Denmark and to re-enter their own countries.

Health and Safety

Your health shouldn't be an issue while visiting Denmark, no vaccinations is needed. You should however drink bottled water if you are not used to other countries' water and you should keep you body hydrated at all times. Denmark has a fairly low crime rate, with little street crimes and hassles. But be vigilant at all times of pickpockets and petty thefts. Avoid walking in deserted alleyways and aisles at night and never walk alone.

Money and Currency

Krone is the official currency unit of Denmark. Banks are generally the best place to exchange cash and travelers cheques, as they offer the best exchange rates. Banking hours are from Monday - Friday 09:30 am - 04:00 pm (Thursday 09:30 am - 06:00 pm). ATM machines are widespread. There are no hard rules for tipping, but it is always polite to round up to the nearest 10kr for restaurants and taxis.
