One Final Appeal
The RANGITIKEI COLLEGE YOUTH BRASS band is close to arriving at it’s fundraising total to get t o BUNDABERG, very close indeed.
We have collected, through fundraising events and donations from within our community, about 80% of our total we projected that we would need. The adult band members in our band have made financial contributions also, supporting the entire essence of this venture that “the kids go for free”.
We were going to approach our community and appeal for additional assistance when disaster struck in the Rangitikei and surrounding regions. Just before the weekend of the 14th – 15th Feb, heavy rain started falling in our region and on Monday 16th a Civil Defence Emergency was declared in the Rangitikei, with flooding that hasn’t been seen here for the last 100 years.
We have had power cuts, trees uplifted, homes – farms – and businesses under water. Telecommunications have been intermittent, drinking water is non-existent in some areas, and now to top it all off – we have looters going through the homes of the people evacuated and living in emergency accommodation.
If you want to donate to help this band of youngsters fulfil their mission, (some of which are going through hardships) goto this webpage
http://www.marton.co.nz/bands/fundraising.htm
and details of how to contribute are there. If you have a dollar or two spare it would be most appreciated.
( As I am writing this, the rain is falling [again] quite heavily; gale force winds are hitting our house; and the lights are [frequently] dimming as the power fluctuates – neat eh! )
Cheers
Brian Williams
