Rent here in Sweden is much cheaper and so is insurance than in the US.Those two expenses make up a big portion. Also, included in the rent is basic cable and water and heat. (At least in everyone apartment I've ever heard of)

I've known couples here that survived on less than 10.000SEK a month.. Even couples with kids..

I find some things higher, but overall, the cost of living is cheaper here.
