Question

Hi All,

I'm having a Swedish friend and her family over for dinner on New Year's Day. She is moving a long way from me in mid-January so I would like to make New Year's Day quite special by way of a goodbye.

I have registered with Sweden.com in the hope that you may be able to offer some advice for me

I'd like to know what kind of food to serve, and traditions concerning how to conduct the day, toasts, drinks, activities. I am limited considerably with ingredients (I'm in country Australia) but there is an international delicatessen that I intend to visit later to see what is on offer. But I'm prepared to try my hardest to make this a special day.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance

Deborah.

Swedes celebrate New Year's the same way as most westerners do.. They have their special TV shows and fireworks.. go to parties, etc.

There's no -must have- foods on New Year's Eve like there is for Christmas, but if you want to go with Swedish tradtional food.. salmon, or lobsters are a good bet.
