You are the first to go into the new year.
That deserves a post! And a toast! Or is that spelled differently than the bread. I'm talking about a shot but toast rimes with post. I know we speak English in the USA but there are probably some linguistic differances! ------------------ www.shanziel.com |

There are some linguistic differences between NZ and the US but the word toast is not one of them. Yes, it was ind of interesting going into the Year 2000 first and then watching on Live TV as the rest of the world followed. Interesting expoerience

I started watching on TV later. Losts of people stayed off their computers for Y2K. I figured if my computer was going to crash I wanted it to be on and have a fighting chance.
I would be intrested in learning some of the linguistical differences. I do not know why but when I was a kid I always thought New Zealand would be a good place to visit. I'm just to cheap to actually pay for a plane ticket when Colorado is so nice. ------------------ www.shanziel.com |

Hahaha, New Zealand has places that are very much like Colorado .... ragged mountains, ski slopes, unspoilt wilderness etc. We also have everything from glaciers and iceflows (south) to sand dunes and crystal clear blue waters (north). Come on over one day and say hi!
Some linguistic differences eh? Let me see ... ummm ...... US WORD NZ WORD condo/apartment flat highway/freeway motorway hood (on car) bonnet trunk (on car) boot There's a few to get you chuckling ![]() ------------------ Watchmanz |

Actually a lot of Americans call their place a flat.
Those term are also used in the UK right? America is so big we have differences from one part of the country to the other. TV kind of gives us a monolinguistic culture and it also exports it to a certain extent. I regret that our gangs have spread to other countries. I perfer British rock to most American bands. American bands are party oriented where most of the UK bands like Pink Floyd and Yes did go to college and are more concept oriented. I'm oversimplifying and yes I know the USA is just one country in America and not America. I also saw your post on the political strand and am intrested in discussing taxes with you. I'll start a post overthere. ------------------ Shan "Free Ads Free Links" Ziel www.freeyellow.com/members8/shanziel/FREELINKS.html |

I must say that I tend to follow either a particular song or a particular group, rather than preferring British or American music. Definitely Pink Floyd is a favourite. My musical tastes are extremely varied and they range from Les Miserables to Westlife and Boyzone to Meatloaf to ACDC. I find lately that the majority of recently released music I like is coming from Ireland. It's great to see that nation starting to make ground after many years in a shadow .... plus I have some Irish heritage so I can be especially proud

UFO, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd all British.
AC/DC rocks but lacks the intellectual componet of traditional British hard rock. I love most of Aerosmith's old stuff. The new Kid Rock is also really good. American bands seem to be sex, drugs, and party while British bands are life the universe and everything. UFO crashed and burned as badly as Guns and Roses so perhaps I'm being to hard on my fellow American rockers. Most of the great American bands are heavely influenced by the British hard rock scene. Of course our blues started the whole hard rock scene. I like how British bands try to incorporate clasical elements and actually tend to have mucisal training and not just be a bunch of powercords. Foghat, ZZTop and Aerosmith will always have a place in my music collection but the British bands always end up in the player more. I like to play everything recorded by Deep Purple and see how they have progressed over the years. I even have stuff from 1969 when I was only one year old. Rush and April Wine from Canida are also to top acts. April Wine's last album was exclent. ------------------ Shan "Free Ads Free Links" Ziel www.freeyellow.com/members8/shanziel/FREELINKS.html |
