I found a few Eric Janson/Jansson/Jensen (the spelling Ericc Jaanson is not likely "original", but an Americanized version) at the Bishop Hill Colonists and Descendants Database

Check it out!!!

Thumbs up Eric Janson, Bishop Hill

Howdy "ninersfan7"!
Glad to meet a descendent of Eric Janson.
I'm a descendent of his Bishop Hill partner - Andrew Bergland.

There is a lot to find about Eric Janson, but there is very much that is just fantasy too.

Eric Janson was born in Biskopskulla in Sweden.
He came to Alfta in Hälsingland in 1844, and there he preached for a lot of people and he got the people in Alfta to go against the church.
Well - to make a long story short - Eric and his companions burned some holy books, and then they left for US.

Since I have done some research about Bishop Hill and the people that emigrated there.
I have a lot of material and I'm glad to be able to help.
Just let me know and I'll send you some files of information.

I have been searching for many years for my g.g. grandfather's ancestors. Not knowing where their native city and/or country was, and having researched in Germany and the USA, I have decided he may have immigrated from Sweden.
I am seeking the parents and other ancestors of:
Herrmann Gerhardt Hömm, b. Abt. 1779 (Hasselt, Ostfries., Gy.), d. 02-18-1846 (Schwerinsdorf, Ostfries., Gy.).
Herrman md. Meena Jürgens (Schön/Schoone/Schoon) Bef. 1811. Meena was b. 12-08-1790 (Siebestock, Ostfries. Gy.) and d. 11-17-1849 (Schwerinsdorf, Ostfries., Gy.)
Children:
1.) Jann Gerhard Hömm b. 10-24-1811 (Holtland, Ostfries., Gy.), d. 03-26-1812 (Holtland, Ostfries., Gy.)
2.) Lükke Hermanßen Hömm (my g. grandmother) b. 06-11-1816 (Schwerinsdorf, Ostfries., Gy.), d. 12-10-1880 (Meinersfehn, Ostfries., Gy.), md. Harm Caspers Meinert Ubben 04-25-1840 (Hesel, Ostfries., Gy.)
3.) Allmina Hermanßen Hömm b. 04-10-1819 (Hasselt, Ostfries., Gy.), d. 03-17-1894 (Schwerinsdorf, Ostfries., Gy.), md. Jacob Janßen Ferdinand 06-13-1852 (Hesel, Ostfries., Gy.)
4.) Gretja Maria Hömm b. 02-17-1822 (Schwerinsdorf, Ostfries., Gy.), d. 11-08-1893 (Remels, Ostfries., Gy.), md. Casjen Gottfrieds Reitmier 09-19-1840 (Hesel, Ostfries., Gy.)
5.) Johann Gerhard Hömm b. 06-15-1824 (Schwerinsdorf, Ostfries., Gy.), d. 04-24-1825 (Schweiburg, Ostfries., Gy.)
6.) Jann Jüergens Hermanns Hömm b. 10-18-1827 (Schwerinsdorf, Ostfries., Gy.), d. 10-1878 (Bunker Hill; IL, USA), md.
Altamina 'Almt' Janßen Osterkamp 12-02-1849
7.) Wübke Hermanßen Hömm b. 05-26-1830 (Hasselt, Ostfries., Gy.), d. 09-03-1865 (Strackholt, Ostfries, Gy.), md. Hinrikus Janßen Reinders 03-22-1852 (Hessel, Ostfries., Gy.)
8.) Mena Hermanna Hömm b. 11-20-1838 (Schweiburg, Ostfries., Gy.), d, 04-05-1839 (Schwerinsdorf, Ostfries., Gy.)
9.) Wüpke Anna Hömm b. Abt. 1813, OO 1852 Reinders

The Hömm/Hoemm/Homm surname is quite rare in present day Ostfriesland and I am thinking Hermann Gerhardt Hömm's parents must have been from another area. I would really appreciate any information any of you can give me. Hopefully, somewhere along the way I will find someone here in Sweden who is related. If so, I have extensive ancestry information on Hermann's wife which I will share, and also certain other descendancy information.

I do not understand the swedish language but am able to communicate in german as well as english.

My Website: http://www.ourtownusa.net/~draufganger/

Kind regards!

Do any of you have any way to find Bishop Hill residents from 1875-1880 (for sure, possibly earlier as well)? My G-g-grandparents lived there for a few years before moving to Nebraska on their way to Washington state. I'm just trying to get more information about their time in Bishop Hill, but I'm not having much help finding names of original residents. Let me know if you can help or need more information,

Thanks,

Trudi
