I have recently found out that my Great Grandfather August Zettergren (Settergren) and his wife Marit (Martha) Olsdotter and their children left Sweden in 1887 for North America. I am so thrilled, I thought it would be very difficult as I think due to illiteracy the family name was changed when they were in Canada. I also learned of August and Martha's family line and fell in love with the names of August's parents (my great great grandparents) Andreas Zettergren and Cajsa Andersdotter. Somehow I sense Andreas and Cajsa were special people. I would like to know how to pronounce 'Cajsa'. I found a Cajsa Zettergren on the Sweden email directory but the email did not go through. I love that name, Cajsa. August was born in Åmål parish, Elfsborgs län(in Southern Sweden). Martha was born in Landön, Offerdal parish. We must have distant cousins in Sweden yet. One way to find out about relatives is for them to come forward with the same last name and the names of their descendants and birthdates/places and match them to what I have. The family are indeed 'passive Swedes'. None were/are hot-tempered except for the stories I heard about Great Grandmother Martha. I'd love to hear from someone with a similar last name. In Canada the name was spelled as Settergreen and then Zettergreen which is my maiden name.
