Question

I am searching any information on my great granparents on my mother' side through her father... it was thought that they came from Norway ..but now we are not so sure, here is the information that I have at present and I am hoping that it rings a bell with someone out there.

Henric CANUTSON came to American not sure of date when, his name was changed to Canute Hendricks(sounded more American???) doesn't know his granfather's name but his grandmother's name was Martha and he had a sister named Viola E. who married one ___ FREDRICSON "a match king" haven't a clue as to what that means. Canute "Knud" had a brother named Carl and I have no other information on him, other than he had no children.
Canute HENDRICKS married Nellie ANDERSON from Lake Mills, Iowa - she had a brother named Andrew. Children, Carl Odin March 13, 1894 married Alma T.,Carter George November 9, 1898 Chicago,IL married Ethel Harriet Lang Murphy, Hedvig married Harry Mendelhall, Lillian, Ethel, Mabel married Francis Percival Furlott.
and then this address: Nordosfpassagen 4
413 11 Goteborg
Sweden
We know that there are relatives in Lake Mills,Iowa, St. Louis, Missouri and Beeton-Simcoe, Ontario County,Canada just hoping that this stikes a cord with someone.

Canute does not sound Swedish at all, neither Norweigan. Maybe his name was Knutsson, and he "americanized" it on his way over the seas. Knut is a name that would be popular around that time in Sweden, and you also used the nickname "Knud" which is Danish or Norweigan spelling of the name.

Thank you, you could be quite right about the Knutsson, Knud is a name that figures quite a bit in the history handed down ..so I am reasonably sure about that name.. as the infomation at present that I have is vocal information passed down from my grandparents to my mother and she is a good one for writing things down wrong... a running family joke in our family! Also when I started researching my father's line all my grandparents could tell me was about a Aunt Haley .. Uncle Boss ...and Aunt Sis ...who turned out to be Aunt Mahala, Uncle Absalom and Aunt Samantha! But try finding Haley, Boss and Sis! it is interesting and I quite enjoy it ... to add to what I have on the mother's family is the town of "Ohgasen" which my mother has down as being in Norway? then Sweden?????? of course this has me a bit puzzled ...but hopefully I will find my answers. Thanks again!
