Where from comes the name of *Mirangi Bay* ?

My name is Dmitri Mirangi. I live in Eastern Europe,
but know that my ancestors traveled a lot. Maybe someone
from them was in New Zealand and one of the NZ Bays named by his last name.
It's very interesting for me = who knows where from
comes the name of "Mirangi Bay" in Auckland ?

Sorry but I think your name Mirangi, must be from another source.
The name of the bay in Auckland, where I once lived is actually Mairangi - (meaning a tree, Marie)according to the dictionary of Maori Langauge by HW Williams.

I hope you find out more about your family. I too am tracing my whakapapa (family tree) and finding it quite difficult. Good luck on your search.

Yep definately Mairangi, not Mirangi.
