Why no one is talking about Norway, though it is riding piggy-back like a siamese twin with Sweden?

Quite possibly because no one is interested. There are no Norwegian on this board and very few Swedes, so i cant see you getting much of a discussion on the subject.

Norway and Sweden may be linked geographically but as far as ive seen they dont get on that well, then again im not that well up in this field.

Goldstein, i can post, say, ten topics, and i will be lucky if i get a reply to three or four. Thats the way things are on a board thats nearly empty.

We few that are here, are just trying to keep this site going.

ciao.

You make me interested mykfin... in what sense do you not think Sweden and Norway (or is it Swedes and Norweigans) are getting along well?

I can´t see anything else than that we are actually like the best of friends, me, Sweden and Norway!

Hi bosse_s, as i mentioned in my post, im not that well up in the relations between Swedes and Norwegians, its just the feeling one gets from the media and the internet etc:

As you probobly know better then i do regarding the history of the two countries. Norway were absorbed by Denmark for around 400 years and then the union with Sweden which didn`t go down to well, in fact it almost started a war.

Finally Norway got their independance in 1905, and some historians say it was not a very happy 90 years. Maybe some of this has spread down the years and still exists today, i would be happy to see your points on this. Im sure you will know better then i ever could.

ciao.

I think it is a misperception, really. Maybe we need a second or third opinion though. There is a constant "nagging" between the two countries, but a low-intensity more like brothers or sisters kinda thing.

I have never meet anyone from Norway w/ any hospitalit. I´d say that it usually is more tense between Denmark and Sweden, but not even that is much to say about compared to the tensions betwen other countries in Europe.

i've spent a decent amount of time in both countries. the tensions are not too much or too serious anymore, i think. i have just heard (and participated in) the teasing between swedes and norwegians. there are some older norwegians who are still pissed that sweden let the nazis go through their country to invade norway. some swedes are pissed that sweden did that, too, though. both countries have been victims of germany's love for moose crossing signs. both populations think that danish people sound like they have potatoes in their throats.

I think the only time the Scandinavians get nasty with each other, are when football and other sports are involved. They just hate to lose to one another

vikings

Now I read all the replies when I posted a reply.
Strange!

What about VIKINGS?

Their origin is Norway, yes or no?

These vikings are barbarian tribes who go on rampage on other countries.
I read in National Geographic that these marauding plunderes took a route descending along the neck of the Scandinavian peninsula, entered area now under Russia, went along the river volga down to Ukraine.
Similarly they used to make plenty of plundering trips to England. The word "king" is derived from the word 'viking'.

Strangely it is the Norwegians who are facilitating as intermediaries in the peace talks between Sri Lankan government and the terrible Tamil separatist organisation who control the north of the island nation.
These Norwegians do not look terrible.
They look mild gentlemen.

Oslo's centennial party to last 10 days
Oslo's calendar of events tied to Norway's centennial this year is filling up. Local residents and visitors will be able to party for 10 days running.

"We've tried to line up events with something for everyone," said Jens Kristian Thune, new leader of the board in charge of the centennial (Hundreårsmarkeringen-Norge 2005). "Now we just hope the weather will cooperate and that people will turn out."

The official day that marks the end of Norway's union with Sweden is June 7. Events in Oslo will get underway at 6pm on June 3, with a "Cultural Night" featuring 150 arrangements at 45 places in the capital offering everything from line dancing to author discussions and bell-ringing.

Saturday June 4 will be "Music Day," with 12 hours of music playing from 22 stages around the city and a dance gala at Ekeberg Hall.

On June 7, Norway's three tall ships Christian Radich, Sørlandet and Statsråd Lehmkul will sail into Oslo harbor together, while a "peoples' party" (folkefest) will meet them at the waterfront plaza in front of City Hall. Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK) will host an outdoor concert there featuring such Norwegian performers as Silje Nergaard, Bjørn Eidsvåg and Kurt Nilsen.

Elton John will hold a concert at Oslo Spektrum the next day, while Friday June 10 will be "Sweden's Day" back in front of City Hall, with exhibits and entertainment from Astri Lindgren's World.

The new Nobel Peace Center will open that weekend, along with an Oslo Summer Festival featuring Nowegian food and culture on offer around downtown.

Centennial exhibits and events will take place all over the country. For details, consult the web site for the centennial commission, Norway 2005

Looks like its going to be some party.

Hello Norwegians !
Congrats on your centennial celebs.
Will some good Norwegian invite me as a guest to see the celebs.I think each norwegian should entertain one foreigner as a guest on this historic event.

Yeah mykfin ! No body has responded to my post dated
7 May, though it was quite provocative.
I think the Norges just don't bother about anything else except themselves.
