Question Is there nothing to discuss about NZ history?

On reading this thread I found out that New Zealand's history is Halloween and Thanksgiving.
Have you fought for independence ever?
How New Zealand was named first? Who are your celebrity?
Is there nothing to discuss?

We were talking about Halloween and Thanksgiving in the US and Canada. We have maybe 3 (at the most) Kiwi's on this board and they don't post all the time. We're mostly made up of Americans, a Canadian and a Scotsman.
If my memory serves me correctly, most early settlers were from Scotland.

Did I understand correctly?

NZ History

Kia ora Irena!
This is our way of greeting people in Maori here in NewZealand.
Kia ora also to all other New Zealanders and Nationalities on this NZ discussion Board.Welcome to you all!

Does NZ have any history?? Well, well;where do I start?
Seeing that I am Maori I will tell you of the history of my people.
According to our History,we as a people originated in a place (that no one has definitely put their finger on it's location yet) called Hawaiki nui,Hawaiki roa,Hawaiki pamamao.Literally, this means The large Hawaiki, the long Hawaiki, the far away Hawaiki...NOT Hawaii at all,but Hawaiki. A migration is told of where a number of canoes were built, outrigged, blessed and set sail(navigating by the stars, sun, moon, and sea)until they eventually reached Aotearoa..the land of the long white cloud. Many incidences occured which led to various canoe landing in various areas of our country.History tells us that the Moriori were here already - a very passive people who were eventually driven by my ancestors(a warrimg people)to the Chatham Islands.
Various Iwi(Tribes like Scottish Clans)settled where they landed, others moved on into different areas claiming lands as their own.So my Maori ancestors became the people of the land here in NZ.As I said earlier on, they were a very warring people and insults, no matter how small and insignificant to others was avenged in no uncertain terms.I think it was a tough time to live in though there are some poignantly lovely loving stories left behind for us,and which are told even today.Customs and rituals were handed by word of mouth as well as in paintings, carvings, weavings,
and songs and these are very much alive today.
Sorry Irena, I have to go now,but I will return and continue to tell you in a general way of the history of this beautiful country of mine.
Ka Kite ano(See you again)

Re: NZ History

Kia ora Swtnan!

It's very interesting what you told before.
I've some further questions:
How is the population density of NZ?
Are there so less people?
Is this page not so well known?
Are the people not interesting in internet?

then:
How was and is know the relationship to the Aborigines or is there a relationship?

How is the status of the original inhabitants?

I've heard that they are a lots of amis, british people there. Are they all nations there?

Ka Kite ano

P.s. I like very much your greetings ...

Have you fought independence ever? I am afraid as to what prompted you to ask this question to people at NewZealand.
Look at the prevailing situation in places where British had left leaving the people to mend for themselves in the name of independence. I hear from people those who visited NewZealand that it is one of the best places on earth to live in. Please for god s sake do not suggest a word that would snatch their independence which they are enjoying now.

Post Thank God, I found mr. Swamy

Hi Mr Swamy,
Where are you living now. In NZ? I am from India. I would like to come to NZ with Family immigration. I have a son who is suffering from some kind of allergy. It became Broncho Asthma now. The doctor advises, if i could take him out of Delhi. So I would like to prefer an Immigration with Family. Could you please give me some guidance.
Thanks you,

Jaya

Question

Now let me start from the beginning so that no one is confused:

Waitangi Day: Our form of Independence Day, the day we are to honour the signing of the Treaty with our Royal British Allies.
Anzac Day: The Memorial Day for us, that day is to honour those that fought and died for us.
Guy Fawkes Day: Our July 4th, not necessarily the Independence Day but we use our Fireworks that day.
Queen's B-Day: Is also celebrated which is on June 1st.
There are other holidays Im sure but I forget.

Actors/Actresses from NZ:
The guy on Matrix who goes by Apoc, who co-starred with Keanu Reeves is Maori.
The guy who co-starred with Pamela Anderson on BarbWire, is Maori.
The guy who was on Training Day with Denzel Washington, also Three Kings, who played as the leader for the Iraquians, and co-stars in a recent movie with Arnold Schwartenegger, is maori.
I wish I remembered their names but I am not at my home to get their names, however I know that they are Maori.
Not just a Kiwi, but Maori.
They're there, like myself who knows her people can identify it.

One of the major parts that has to do with money, is made by Farming and Agriculture, especially dealing with Sheep.

When I went to school, it was a requirement to learn our own culture, along with other cultures. Education is of vital importance there, however not many take advantage of it. I have 3 sisters and a brother who currently go to school there and tell me it is still pretty much the same, since I migrated to the US.

As far as tribes, let me tell you that I am from Te-Whanau-a-Apanu and Mataatua. Mataatua is a tribal canoe. It is a part of our tribe but its the name of our canoe of our tribe. My marae is in Whitianga, east coast of the Bay of Plenty. The tribes are set up, similar to the Scottish are to their clans, however it is better compared to the Native Indians. I have never been told that we are in anyway connected to the Aborigines, but I wouldn't rule it out being that basically all of the polynesian cultures are connected in some way, whether they want to admit it, I don't know.

Are there many people on this site, sadly no. I remember this site was so alive, where they all left?, hell if I know. So I won't disagree with you, not on that one.
There are so many cultures there, many have migrated from India, other Pacific Islands, France, Spain, and Britain. Its what make the country great. My country is beautiful and there is much to appreciate there. If you like green that is. Well I do have to go, but I will tell you more tomorrow. I must go.

Ka Kite,
LM

I think NZ history is somewhere under Gods left-pinky fingernail - just to get a world perspective! I quite believe the notion of rampaging polynesian sailors arriving to deal to the peaceful peoples who I think it is generally accepted were alive and kicking at the time of their arrival. In the legends i've come across the waka arivers have always stated that their were ppeoples already here eg. Kupe. Unfortunately the true indigenous tribes were killed off fairly quickly I summise? the legends of NZ are vibrant and may hold the key to our past more strongly than any other research method - they just need to be interpreted accurately.Any takers?
