I found some pictures on the net of old Swedish pre- and post WW2 warships, I thought that it might be suiting for the 'History' topic.

Destroyer HMS Oscar II

Cruiser HMS Fylgia

Destroyer HMS Ehrensköld

Cruiser HMS Göta Lejon

Aircraft carrier HMS Dristigheten

Battleship HMS Sverige

Mine cruiser HMS Älvsnabben

That's easy. You can just 'Google' it, or do a search on it on warships1.com .

I didn't know either that Sweden had an aircraft carrier at first, but when I knew, I thought that it was pretty cool.

What am I doing here?

Maybe it is a matter of definition. Obviously it is a carrier with an aircraft on it... what am I trying to say? Well, it is cool any way.

I guess I mean, like, uh... it carries planes but I guess any battle ship could do that? But then again, it is a specific carrier for aircrafts, which is cool.

Ok now, never mind me. Carry on.

Well, these planes are used for reconisance, theres no landing strip. They splash down next to the ship and then lifted with a crane to its old location.

Not really a "aircraft carrier", but its the first steps towards one.

If you are interested in swedish "aircraft carriers", try search the internet for info on HMS Gotland.

"Battleships carrying planes..?"

Until the introduction of radar almost all major warships, battleships and heavy cruisers, carried two to three reconnaissance aircrafts that was launched by way of steam catapult.

Damn. I was wrong. Now I have to lock myself into my basement and slap myself silly with a hard-bottomed shoe.

Hello Niquie

Thank you for the warm welcome, it´s nice to see you to.

What can I say? I´m just so darn lazy.

When you are through doing that shoe thing of yours then do try to check out the Gotland. It really was a very interesting ship, I promise.

Well lonely, you see my "problem": What defines a air fighter carrier -that it carries planes or that the ships can land and take-off from it? The whole issue stuck to my brain and took all energy that was in it. I got obsessed with thoughts about different types of carriers.

But I still claim: Never mind me, I was just rambling on. Really.

I have a old "Air Force" (Sveriges Försvar - Flygvapnet) book from my grandfather.. It has that weird looking HMS Dristigheten in it, at least it looks like it.

I think they launch the plane via a catapult or something.. Does not sound very safe to me.
