Thumbs up

I read this history book about this "king" of Sweden, daughter of Gustav II Adolphe. She was living in the 17th century and She spoke 11 different languages as French perfectly. I woudered if she is admired in Sweden. I was pround to learn the celeb French writer Descartes is died in Stockholm (as I'm French and a writer wannabie...).

No we do not admire her. She became a catholic and left us. She also lied about why she left.

Well, if you read some more about Kristina, you'll probably understand she wasn't too much to be proud of.
Or rather, she left the throne to her cousin, lied (as Petabyte said) about why, converted to catholisism, tried to become queen of Nepal and then (by her own accord)executed the man (in her service) responisible for overthrowing the French plans to attack Nepal.

And Descartes.. Well is it something to be proud of that he died of pneumonia in Sweden?
poor guy..

Förlåt Mayweed! I read her whole biography for about 315 pages and I love her. Maybe it's because I'M not swedish and I see it under a different angle. I think it's awesome how she introduced the French culture in Sweden. I know about Descarte and pneumonia. You know maybe he was safer to die i Stockholm than in France where you have different troubles than the Weather....I'm catholic, so her converted to it makes me love her more. It's the reason why I wanted swe-opinion on it. Now I see you don't really love her. It's fine, I respect your opinion and I'm happy to hear about it.

Conny T's "Kung Byxlös" from the album "Anno Domini", his very personal interpretation of Sweden's history:

Du levde ett liv i välbehag,
i lyx och en ofattbar flärd.
Men så tände det snett
när du vakna en dag,
då du drömt om en helt annan värld.
Kung Byxlös anses vis och klok.
Förströr sig gärna med nån bok.
Men Kung Byxlös vill nog allra helst

Kung Byxlös fick aldrig nån man.

LOL that was great Thule.

If there is someone to adore in our history, I think its "Carl Gustav II Adolf", the great warlord

Here's a couple that might be worth keeping an eye out for:

The Lion of The North : A Tale of the Times of Gustavus Adolphus

Gustavus Adolphus: A Hero of the Reformation

In my opinion Karl X where the greatest of the swedish kings at the time. HE conquered all of poland (lost it though) managed to get skåne trondheim halland and blekinge from denmark. The march over the belts. A very good book about him is "Den oövervinerlige" (the invinsible) by Peter Englend. Which is a part of a trilogy over Swedens time as a great power. The first book in the series "ofreds år". Not to forgett Karl XI and XII. Karl XI was very popular among the war and thanks to him it was peace during his time as regent. He used to ride out in disguise and inspect the taxcollectors too see that they werent taking out to much tax from the people. Therefore he was called "grå kappan". Karl XII was a military mastemind au pair with napoleon. Conquered poland saxony and won great battles against the russians before he lost at poltawa.
