As I understand there are NOT too many left
However I do live just down the road from one. Both our kids were Baptized here. I'm really interested in learning more about wooden churches. GRANHULTS KYRKAN |

Stave churches are more a Norwegian thing and so it's easier to learn about them from Norwegian sites.. but here's a link to one on general Scandinavian stave churches.

There used to be hundreds of stave churches in Sweden, but since they were not very durable almost all of them have burned down or got rotten. They were among the very first churches to be built here.
![]() one that survived, Hedareds stave church. |

I only know of one of these, unfortunately I can't find a photo of it, but it's the Chapel on our local Scout Camp, Tawd Vale.
Although I didn't actually contribute to the building of it ( just a few years before I was old enough to join the local Cub Pack! ) I have helped repair and maintain it from time to time since then as a volunteer on the Crew who help to run the site .... and BTW, we also dug (by hand!!) our own 25m swimming pool .... I was certain there were more photos on the Tawd Vale website, if I find one I'll post it ![]() |
