Question

Hey all ! Ive done some reading here and i see booth good and bad things about racism - honestly im not a racist and i have nothing against anyone as long as there is respect so to speak between people we r all equal no matter what colour we r. I live in Romania - a eastern European country and here even thou is the year of 2003 people r still looking weird at black people and so on - just as an example .
Last summer i've been spending 3 months in Sweden,,, in my opinion was very nice and i even thou i was a foreigner no one made me feel like i didnt belong there and i found out that people r quite nice there. Im gooing to move there sometime during september or octomber, but im curious if it will really be that hard to find a job there since im a foreigner - i know i read on the http://www.migrationsverket.se site that usually swedes r priorated in getting a job cs they r swedes - is it really so ?
Thanks and i wait to hear from u,
Laura

Yes, it's true. Swedes get priority on jobs.

It is that way all over the world. And rightly so. It would seem a little odd to me if a nation told it's own people that they don't come first.

Swedes get first priority, then other EU citizens and then everyone else.

However, you must also remember that once you move here and have been given residency, you have almost all the same rights to a job as a Swede would. After all, you are now part of the Swedish community.

Would be kind of harsh to give jobs to foreigners when and if you don't have jobs to give your own people

Racism is here as it everywhere else. No more, no less. Wherever you find people, you will find racism.

Not always true in regards to jobs are prioritize towards citizens. Not so in the USA, if you have the skills and legal then you may be hired. The US is about Money first then all else afterwards and yes racism is really bad in the US and they still have a long ways to go.

By the way, I now reside in Chicago but will be moving to Stockholm on Aug 31. Let's keep in contact.

Question

First job to the people of the country is in fact applied in the job markets in Sweden, and I would say, this is an outcome of "narrow mind". If you look in the USA job markets, qualification is the first priority than the US citizens. However, I have heard rumors that Africans often face discrimination in the USA. I read one article in DN.SE some months ago that says, Sweden is the hardest country in the world (not only in EU) for foreigners in finding jobs.
In my experience, think of the following if you want to migrate to or try to find a job in Sweden:
1) Is your qualification/skill extraordinarily high (techinal including doctors) that Sweden lacks?
2) Do you speak Swedish? If not, you cannot get even a dish-washing job in Sweden. Go to Swedish job bureau's website and check, where the employers want you to speak Swedish even for dishwash jobs.

In fact, I have never seen such a requirement in any other country. I lived in the US half a year, and I know that thousands (even millions) Latinos, who don't speak even a single word in English, widely work in the farms, restaurants, factories and in the constructions.

It is pretty hard, I agree. But to claim, like some do, that is harder than in most other nations is naive. Some countries have much higher levels of un-employment. Some countries don´t even have the option of you even dreaming of finding a job where you speak say English (in Sweden, some workplaces have so many foreign consultants, that English is the official company language).

The comparsion to the latinos in the U.S is not very fair, because that is an industry of low-low paid workers that has become a sub-economical system in the U.S. That is not what Sweden wants, and creating a situation where people come from poor countries to do our "dirty work" for $6/hour is not good.

The regulations for foreign workforce is so regulated though, that it is about to backfire in Sweden. We need more workforce, and we have plenty of foreigners (in and outside of Sweden) that are ready to help us get our business up on track again - if we just let them.

Sweden has now become one of the most affluent countries in the world today, if not the most affluent. Is it not a bit naive of anyone who is not Swedish to try, or suggest to them how they should run their country?
