Irish cailin to arrive in NZ

Hi ALL
Just putting out some feelers about what people think are essential things to do while in NZ.
I will be staying a year so have time to get around.
Will be arriving early Sept into Auckland.
Also anyone any ideas about where I would get casual work of some sort just to keep me going??
I will be grateful for any replies.
