Act before FEB 26, 2003 : Prevent Death Sentence for Lawrence Jacobs in Louisiana
In Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, the prosecution is seeking the death penalty for Lawrence Jacobs, who was only 16 at the time of crime for which he was convicted. International law prohibits the use of the death penalty against people who were under 18 at the time of the crime. In addition, Amnesty International is concerned about evidence of racial bias and flagrantly improper behavior on the part of the prosecutors in this case. In a pre-trial hearing, one of the prosecutors arrived in court wearing a necktie decorated with an image of a hangman's noose.
