End Discrimination Against Women

Bridging the Gap Between Rhetoric and Reality
THE GOAL: Ensure that systems of justice will effectively and in a nondiscriminatory manner prevent, investigate and prosecute violence against woman and girls in accordance with international human rights standards. Specifically:

Press for the abolition of laws and practices that permit violence against women and deny women equal rights with respect to redress and the pursuit of justice for acts of violence.
Press for the adoption of laws that criminalize domestic violence and other forms of violence against women, and ensure that such laws are applied in a non-discriminatory manner and in compliance with international human rights standards.
Press for the ratification and implementation into national law of the Women's Human Rights Treaty (CEDAW) and other human rights treaties that protect women's rights and prevent violence against women.
Hold governments accountable for protecting and respecting women's rights and providing an environment free from violence through a variety of measures, including supporting community-based initiatives that seek to prevent and address violence against women.
Press for the abolition of laws and practices that target and criminalize the victims of violence instead of its perpetrators.
