OK, now in English
What do you call your chips in other countries. Here in Belgium (Flanders) we call them Frieten with many variations (e.g. Frietekes, Frietjes). So what do you call them, and what do you eat them with?

Cool Another word for Frietekes

In Germany we call them "Pommes Frites", in short simply "Pommes". Sounds kind of French to me, so here is my question : Have Germans taken this over from the French language ?? I do not speak French, so I am at a loss.

I am half belgian half german so YES the german bastards have taken the french word for Fries.... pommes means Apfel, and ERDapfel sind bekanntlich Kartoffeln!

I am currently for a months trip in the US and I am desperately trying to explain that FRENCH FRIES aren't real but that they are called BELGIAN FRIES! They already promised me in one restaurant that they'll change it on the menu! And they 'll send me a copy of it!!!

Goeie dag. In Suid-Afrika noem ons dit aartappelskyfies of slapchips. Ek was April in België vir een maand en is opgewonde oor my 2de besoek in Desember! Ek woon in Kaapstad en besoek vriende in Genk, Moniek Bollen. My ander vriendin Marina besit De Rembrandt en haar vriend Jos besit Marthinushuis in Genk. Sien iedereen in Desember!

Thumbs up Chrisna

Son of Yoda

Groetjes

I think you're right.
