Hi, I am a first year french student and I am doing a report on Belgium. The teacher who assigned the report asked me do I know why people smile at you when you say you are from Belgium. Can anyone tell me why? I really think this could be interesting to mention in my oral presentation. Thanx

I know you report must be over and done with, but I think I have your answer. I am from Belgium, and everytime I say I am from Belgium people smile and inmediately ask me if I have a connection with that delicious Belgian chocolat. It never fails, the smile is always followed by a question about chocolat. So, I think it brings memory back to them about chocolat, they associate Belgium with it (those who have been there or who have tasted our delicious chocolat).

Belgium has three good things: chocolate, beer and Belgians (as long as they are not into politics).
