Short translation please

Hi there. I was wondering whether somebody could translate the following phrase for me:

Diss. burgerlijk scheikundig ingenieur

I don't know what Diss. stands for.

Burgerlijk ingenieur = Civil engineer

Scheikunde = Chemistry

To become civil engineer, you have to do 5 years of University. It is one of the hardest studies in the field of exact sciences. After the first two years, students have to pick wether they will specialise in mechanics, electrics, chemistry,...

Thanks for your quick reply. I thought ingenieur probably meant engineer. Perhaps Diss. is an abbreviation for the word for dissertation or thesis?

I was looking for a person's PhD thesis and the text I needed to be translated was a note on a record of a doccument held by his University's library. Perhaps it is a dissertation he did for his first degree - presumably in civil engineering with a specialisation in chemistry.
