kia ora koutou
Greetings to you all,

kia ora, "kat" tino pai, kei te awhi au tou korero. ka pai e hoa.

I am a full blooded Maori one of the last living, In Ngati Porou. I am sure there are alot of other full blooded Maori around, but the number of pakeha seem to out weigh us.

Ngati Porou is the largest Maori Tribe In Aotearoa, and also one of the strongest both in culture and spirit as alot of Maori are.

Although colonisation has managed to creep into our lives it goes without saying, a culture will only die, if we choose to let it. so

kia kaha koutou...

Here on the Eastcoast Te Reo and so is culture, here in Gisborne...almost 80% population is Maori, and if not...they are atleast half... Te Reo is encouraged greatly. There are a few websites you can look at to help you with learning a little more about Maori.

www.Maori.org.co.nz http://members.nbci.com/TamaHauta/

check these sites out...there are alot more let me know if you want them.

Also you most likely are not going to find to many Maori online as you will have more luck finding them at the local Marae/meeting house.

We are a proud people, both with mana and wairua, and plenty of Aroha and will share our culture with only those who respect it.

ka ki te ano e hoa...

Hi Kaia, nice to meet you!!! Nice to see the little lightbulb beside Maori flash too!! I am from Auckland, near the Waitakere Ranges, I have not been to Gisbourne but I know friends from there. I was surprised to hear you are a full blooded Maori, because we have been taught that there are none left, the last living one to have died at a very old age in the 80's.

Kia kaha friend!
Kat

Unfortunately, I couldn't hear Maori sings on site Maori.com.
If anyone want to send me a couple of Maori sings on e-mail, I'll be very appriciate.
One can re-write them from CD and send by e-mail.
Thank you

Maori Story teller

Kia ora Anto! Greetings from a 57yr young Maori woman.I have not long found this site as I am not on the Internet as much as I would like.I have had great fun reading what KATNZ has found for you about me and my people.Generally speaking she's right and I'm proud of her taking on the challenge to inform you.
Maori people are like many other indigenous people throughout the world. We have our customs, our rituals, our ways of doing things, our language, our illnesses, our troubles, our solutions, our ups and our downs.Sound familiar to you?
On the 28 October 1840, a Declaration of Independence was signed between my Ancestors and reps of Queen Victoria.
Somewhere along the way, in amongst all of the hullaballoo over the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi, the Declaration got lost.Today,Maori Teachers throughout NZ plan and prepare for a Hikoi mo Te Reo(A walk of commemoration) to strengthen our language and help our children remember the History of our ancestors. It's a heap of work but great fun!
Hope this adds to your knowledge in a personal kind of way.
Do enjoy! I will return again.
Arohanui(pronounced Ahhrawhahnooeeee!means lots of love)
Swtnan.

Skiwi? If you ever pick up on this site again, and I hope you do, I'd love to chat about things we have in common even if through your beloved son.
1.I am Maori from the East Coast of the North Island, and have a guess which of the little towns up and down the Coast
is my hometown? You got it...Ruatoria! I left there a long, long, loooooooong time ago now,but it is still my hometown.
2.I am working in Invercargill in NgaiTahu territory...your sons Iwi,and even though I have been down here since Christmas 1966,I am still a visitor..and will always be one unless I marry into the tribe of your son.
Here's hoping you see this message.
Lots have probably happened since April 2000,but I live in hope.

Hi Swtnan!!!

Thanks for the thanks! I actually enjoyed raking through my knowledge of the Maori to help Anto out. Growing up in NZ has been a pleasure and made all the more so for the enrichment I think we get out of having such a multicultural society. Haven' t seen Megan in these parts for a while but I also hope she has a look in every now and again.

I live in London at the moment and Anto is in Italy studying. She came to London late last year and we met eachother, she is lovely and her interest in Maori is genuine, she and her boyfriend Luca are staunch supporters of the All Blacks.

Hi Anto, buddy, how are ya? Gearing up for the rugby season? I am about to leave for my holiday in Egypt and Turkey for 5 weeks, so I'll email you some photos when I get back - have a good one girl!!

Katxxxxx
