Kia ora Suvira. What a wonderful decision you have made.Being Maori myself, I applaud you.
There are lessons in Maori Language on the NZ net, there are books and tapes you can buy from Paper Plus and Whitcoulls in NZ, if you are able to watch and listen to the Maori news sometimes, you will be able to hear how the language flows and and how different the vowel sounds are to their English counterparts. Were you able to speak the Queen's English you would probably have less trouble with pronunciation than many other persons I know. There are a few rules to learn as well, but total immersion is the fastest way I know of learning any language at all. So,good luck to you...have fun...and one day,I may be able to korero with you on this discussion board all in Te Reo Maori.I wish you well.Ka kite! |

kia ora to you yes It is brilliant that you want to learn the first language of NZ. A good way is to read the stories to build up a list of words that you become familiar with, the following site is a goodone for that you just go to search and then put in the legendary figures such as RAHI or MAUI or KUPE or HINEMOA and so on, you can recite the legends and tell others to become familiar with the language and gradually you will feel more comfortable with the language. Ask someone to read them to you also so you can get the good pronounciation going too. Best of fortune! http://www.maori.org.nz/forum/search.asp?
