Cool

Hej everybody. I'd like to get some knowledge about Swedish
music nowadays. We all know the great ABBA, Europe, Roxette,
Cardigans, Ace of Base, Alcazar and so on. My gosh, it's already a long list for a country with so few inhabitants.
Given that Sweden is not even acknowledged as an English-speaking country.....It really leaves certain countries way
behind by far.

I heard of Kent for example. But what kind of music do they do ? Hard rock or what else ? Briefly, I'd love to have a list of bands and singers and the kind of music they do.
Tack så mycket och lycka till.

I'm sorry these must be the only ones that I've ever heard of in the Belgian charts. But they rule all!!

Their music is melancholic indie rock, in my opinion. They're often also listed under "alternative."

Hej!

As you said, sweden has a lot of famous bands and singers, which is rarely known by most of people. I would add Eagle Eye Cherry to your list! Who knew that honnestly?

Regarding the band "Kent", I would say it's probably the best Pop/Rock group of the last 5 years. I'm really a great fan. Their music cannot be classified but they are extremely innovative and creative. Each time they release an album, you are surprised. If you want to get to know them, start with "Hagnesta Hill" album. It's worth!

ha det bra.

I know they were Norwegian but I really liked A-HA. They toured 'down under' in October 1985 and appeared on Australia's version of 'top of the pops' 'Countdown' and brought the house down. Were they popular in Sweden?

P.S. I do a really great rendition of " Take on Me"

KENT

very good group; they're certainly one of my favourite progressive rock groups. i've heard just about all of their material except for 'Isola', which i plan on getting sometime; though, any of their other records would be a good place to start.

cheers

Yeah, the swedish version of Isola is a million times better than the english version! As is Hagnesta Hill.

Hope you have good luck finding it!

BTW- if you don't mind me asking- where are you from?

And Mayweed, you are a Swede, correct?

Did you know that Sweden is the number 3 exporting nation when it comes to music? Pretty cool for a small country that doesn't natively speak English.

We are forgetting loads of bands in every genre....

The Hives
The Ark
Cesars Palace
Papa Dee
Antiloop
E-Type
Eagle Eye Cherry and sister Neneh Cherry and sister Titiyo
Dr. Alban
The Sounds
Lambretta

Besides great band and singers from Sweden... a whole plethora of songs performed by American acts are actually written and recorded in Sweden...

It's my life by Bon Jovi (written by a Swede)
Celine Dion, Cher...the list goes on...
The whole boy band craze...Britney Spears, BSB, Nsync all the hit songs were written by Swedes.. in particular it was the now defunt Cherion Studios in Stockholm....

Ps.. it's only defunct because those involved decided to get out at what they saw as the top.

The best music export from Sweden after ABBA it's definitely

MILLENCOLIN

I can't believe you swedies forgot this Pioneers, if they would have never got signed by Epitaph, bands like The Hives, The Sounds and Sahara Hotnights would have never out from there. The are the Punk rock swedish pioneers scene. JC...They have a gold album, they sold more than 1,5 millions albums...how you can ignore them? Their studios, The Sound Lab Studios, is rated of the best in Sweden. (www.soundlabstudios.net)...I could go on and on...

...
