New Zealand is a great country to live in dont get me wrong but there are some serious problems with our governments.
For years nothing has been done by successive governments and so slowly our infrastructure has suffered. We only find out about it though when our core services such aws doctors or nurses go on strike.
What we need is parties and leaders that are not afraid to be unpopular as long as it betters the majority of the country. But where can we find such people?

For a country with a population of under 4 million and a land area larger than Great Britain I think we have a great infrastructure.

ATR I have to agree, anyone can see that our rail networks have been run into the ground for a start. The welding of the lines to save money has caused rail to be a dangerous and slow trip.

The running down of wellingtons light rail infrastructure is a shocking indicment on the decions made in the past. Talk about destroying a great resource.

Telecom is facing trouble as well with the phone networks, and are starting to lose money, look for increased issues there in the future, and welcome toll roads, they will save the country from degenerating into dirt tracks again...

All in all the inexorable slide into 3rd world status continues...

i come from the UK, the world's 4th richest country and 5th most powerful country. considering all the money we have to spend on our infrastructure, we have still got a crap one. our railways are apparently the worst in the western world, and our health service, once the envy of the world, is in such a bad condition we have to send some of our patients to germany and france and even to north african countries such as tunisia. our armed forces, the eu's largest, are also in a bad state. we have tanks that don't work in desert conditions and rifles that melt in the heat, no good if we are to go to war with iraq. we have also run out of right-footed boots to give to our soldiers, so they have to go into combat wearing 2 left-footed boots. we used to be the world's greatest country, but now we have small countries with small economies such as new zealand permorming better than us.

Talking Sliding into third world status???

Thats going a bit far...............considering we are fair booming at the moment

Our population is too small to support the current rail system successfully in Wn. Something on a smaller scale and more efficient might work, but I doubt we could afford it.
