i'm an englishman and i was wondering- does anybody think that new zealand should cut all ties with the monarchy and become a republic? is being a monarchy an advantage or a disadvantage for new zealand? and if new zealand becomes a republic, would the majority of the people like it to leave or stay in the commonwealth?

Personaly I dont think people care enough about the monarchy to even enter into the debate, another 20 years and the old angliophiles will have died off and we will become a republic, but until then nobody really cares about them except the people who sell the trashy womans mags that need something to print.

Netchicken has summed it up about right.
I think the majority of young New Zealanders see Great Britain as being irrelevant to our culture and society in the 21st century. A republic is inevitable for Aotearoa NZ eventually.

For over a hundred years, if England called, New Zealand went to war for her. We fed her through 2 world wars.
More of our men died per capita in all the wars we fought in at Englands request, than any other nation.

To reward us for these sacrifices, England wiped us like a dirty rag, some 3 decades ago when she joined the common market.

No. I'll go along with the others. Dont care.

we joined the common market in 1973 to benefit ourselves. it wouldn't have benefited us at all if we hadn't joined. we can't keep breast-feeding new zealand. it's too small and far away.
