The abortion laws are different from country to country here. Abortion is in Sweden allowed up to the 18th week. After that, it is only done in rare cases and must be approved by the National Board of Health and Welfare. Malta and Ireland is the most restricted (still totally illegal?), followed by Poland and Portugal (not allowed unless to protect the womans health).

Abortion may be on the way out here in the US. It hangs on our supreme court, which can accept a case against abortion and then rule as it sees fit. In short, they could at any time end abortion as a legal procedure in the US. It remains to be seen when new judges are appointed if a change is coming. This is a big political fight in the US. Most religious people are very much against abortion for everyone.

Degrees of morality...

The unborn have more rights than the born, and heathen nonbelievers and liberals have even less rights. But now they are vehemently denying any undue religious influence in the Bush camp. Riiiight.

By the way, when are we going to get rid of commonlaw marriages between men and women? After all, if it is immoral for homosexual marriage, is it not also immoral for a man and woman to live together without being married? Same thing. Hmm?

Being from Pennsylvania, the Arlen Specter thing has been very revealing... the allegations about those who backed Toomey in targeting Specter are turning out to be true. Well, at least there are already some interesting rumors circulating about the next Senatorial campaign in PA when Santorum's term is up in 2006.

Yes Niquie, I'll do that. I just can't get over how badly abortion upsets people. My rule is If you don't want abortion, don't get one. Very simple rule really.
Have you ever read "The Cider House Rules" by John Irving ?? A good take on abortion in the 30's and 40's Much more interesting than the movie. Makes you really think what the right to abortion does for the freedom of women in America. Perhaps that's why the Christian right hates abortion so much, they also hate freedom for women.
