The Iraqi regular military units did not fight, they melted away. And I dn't blame them! They were dead ducks in regular unit formations, Gulf War one proved this. Iraqi military was not gonna get caught in anymore "Highways of death". To the point, they melted away and never had any intention of fighting, it was a bluff all the way. What you see in Iraq now IS THE WAR, it is only now a war. Like many before them Iraq knew they were helpless militarily so they choose this long term [years and years] low level fight.
How can some people not understand any basic military tactics? The war is now on, the conquest of Iraq was not a war, it was an occupation almost unopposed. Just a few radicals and a few really brave proud men stood and fought. 99% melted away. Mr. Bush was made into a sucker by proclaiming victory before the war started.
As to Iraqi dead, well, who knows, but they are dead. It has to be way over 8,000. They killed 600 in one day. So argue how many angels can dance on the head of a pin. What's the point? The point is ,change the subject, argue numbers when 10's of thousands have been killed. Point is alot have been killed, that much is clear to even the most radical rightwing draftdodger pinhead in America. I meant the president! Well, we will not see the end of this topic. And I agree with Niquie, we said this would happen and we were called fools and anti Bush nuts. Well, look back at our posts. WHO WAS RIGHT? AND WHO WAS WRONG? About this war.

Niquie, I don't think I was talking down to you. Perhaps we disagree on definitions. The pure military part DID only take a few days. I am referring to US military versus Iraq military, and they capitulated quickly. Our military leaders had an excellent plan against an armed and uniformed military and excecuted it well. But THEN WHAT?

Are you serious? You call that asymetrical battle a "war" among equals? For God's sake! The U.S. military, the mightiest military in the world, goes up against the Iraqi Republican Guard -- a rag-tag group more akin to a disorganized Girl Scout troop, and you call that a bona fide war we won? Geez louise....

And please, spare me your technicalities. It was a war THEN and it remains a war NOW. And I don't care what weaponry the Iraqis are using to fight back, or what uniforms they are in or out of. We are at war with the Iraqi people.

First, the word war normally refers to an armed conflict between the militaries of two or more nations or states. That's not my definition, it's the textbook definition, "bonafide" or "technicalities" do not enter into the equation, nor do Girl Scouts. That was the situation when we went to Iraq, it is no longer the situation now. There's plenty of other words that would more adequately describe the current situation in Iraq. But WAR, War, war, if that's how you want to have it, I give up. For someone who claims to hate war, you seem to enjoy starting your own wars over "technicalities".

As for the rest of it... Yeah, our big and mighty military- an underfunded, stretched-thin shadow of its former self. Don't even have decent armor for vehicles or our troops. Could barely take on a bunch of those Iraqi Girl Scouts even if they were only armed with stale cookies instead of the usual AK-47s and RPGs that are so ubiquitous there, due to the US military's lack of decent intel, budget or logistical support. So we are at war with the entire Iraqi people? And nobody was or is at war with us? Yup, suuure.

Spare you the technicalities? The Bush administration is full of crap, but so are you. I give up.
