The Serbian nation is still in mourning after the Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic has been murdered. After leaving the ministry he was shot down at 12:15. He had to gun shot wounds one in the chest and one in the stomach. He was rushed into hospital, where he was received without a pulse and out of concience. He was reanimated and operated on but he later died of his fatal injuries at 15:00 local time (GMT +1:00).
The main suspect are members of the Zemun Clan (Zemun used to be a seperate city but now is a part of Belgrade). The Zemun Clan is a criminal gang suspected of: trying to kill Djidjic two weeks ago, Killing Ivan Stambolic (an ex Serbian President which misteriously dissapeared), trying to kill Vuk Draskovic (an Yugoslav opposition leader in his time) twice, and a whole lot of other criminal activities like establishing a drug market in ex-Yugoslavia and in West Europe, dozens of killings, prostitution etc. Personaly, as a well-informed citizen of Yugoslavia, I have my doubts as to wether the members of the Zemun Clan astualy pllaned to kill him just because he started a crackdown on crime. In my oppinion they were just a hired hand for somebody else (not sure if foreign or domestic) in who's way Djindjic was (just like JFK). Anyway, most Serbs are in a state of shock, even now 19 hours latter. The candels are still burning at the place where Djindjic was shot down, pople are still mourning for an extraordinary man, a rare man who dared to take on the mob. Fellings of sadness, anger, biterness, desperation and depresion are in everybody's head. The next three days are official days of mourning, and a state of emergancy is active until the guilty parties are broght to justice. In spite of this Schools, hospitals, the police and millitery, and other state institutions are still functioning as normal. Let us all pray for the eternal peace of his soul, regardless of who we percieve God to be. Seeing as this forum is visited by Muslims,Orthodox Christians, Protestants, Catlholics and others some of us are bound to pray to the right God. This man deserves your prayers. |

The prime minister Zoran Djindjic has been layed down in his grave today at 14:30. He was Burried in the New Belgrade Graveyard in the section called the alley of worhty citizens, along side with the other men in women of our proud nation's history that have made such an impact on society thet they will never be forgotten. His wife Ruza, son Luka and doughter Jelena, where in the first row. The tears of litle Jelena softened the hardest of hearts, even that of his greatest pollitical opponent Vojislav Kostunica who couldn't stay away from the graveyard. The Greek Foreign Minister George Papandreou alongside scores of other politicians from all over the World were also present to pay their last tribute to this grate man. Papandreou made a speach on English, and his speach was folowed by those of Djindjic's coleagues, Ministers of Economy and Justice. The contents of their speaches are irelevant.
The funeral service was as big as that of Tito. The diference being in the fact that people came to Tito's funeral because they had to and they came to Djindjic's because they wanted to. 200,000 people were estimated to have went out to the streets of Belgrade. When the whole nation is at a loss for words the words of the Montenegran Arch Bishop come to mind "He who uses a sword can but expect to die of a sword" In loving memmory of Dr. Zoran Djindjic, Vecna mu slava i hvala, Amin ![]() |
