Oh Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes-Benz...

You could try a Novena to St. Ann... My wife claims that's how she got me. Neither of us is actually a practicing Catholic anymore, but that evidently didn't seem to matter to St. Ann. My wife has some interesting theories about that...

But I digress, sounds a little like the business they market to young girls, where fantasies of the glamorous wedding dance in their heads (and worry about what qualities constitute the right spouse, or the actual mechanics of married life after the fact)

Compounded puzzlements, but still same answer, Niquie

There was actually a question in the back of my mind, having no indication of yali's gender- whether yali was male and looking for a gay man or whether it was a typo and yali was female, looking for a guy or now any of the other puzzling combinations you have introduced. But nonetheless it does not affect the outcome as far as I am concerned.

The theory I mentioned is of St. Ann as a manifestation of the Goddess, as opposed to any traditional Catholic meaning- obviously the Catholics have little tolerance and would much prefer to deny yali any form of love other than a heterosexual one between a man and a woman.

In light of my wife's theory, however, St. Ann, as the Goddess and a patron of women, may nonetheless be more interested in helping than you might think. The spiritual belief is your own business, just don't let the establishment know what you are up to

Well, this is getting further and further along in the Religion track, isn't it?

Just a thought....

Don't all marriages end up with the 'same sex' ??

Oww... well, better the same sex than no sex.

I personally believe that the concept of God or Goddess transcends gender, is something that we tend to recast in our own image- we tend to "see" the masculine and feminine manifestations in nature and our environment- and in spiritual figures like St. Ann or Mother Mary, yet ultimately they are all facets of the same thing. I don't believe in a lot of the other traditional nonsense of heaven or hell, or a "good god" versus the devil- I instead would prefer to believe in "good and evil" in terms of for instance structure and chaos... and all as part of the same God and cosmos.

Not knowing the circumstances, I agree with you on the next point - I would tend to think someone who is pursuing marriage to someone of one gender when they are disinterested in that gender, or otherwise prefer the opposite gender, it may indeed be disingenuous and serving some other motive- or if not, bound to fail in the long run as a masquerade covering denial. Life is too short to spend it in denial. Spend it with one you truly enjoy, I say.

I have no problem with same-sex marriage. If two people are willing to commit to that level of commitment and relationship, they should certainly be allowed to. I place a far higher value on the aspect of relationship and sense of family than I do the incidental sexual circumstance. I'd much rather see that than the Britney Spears or Dennis Rodman-style "let's get drunk and get married" garbage.

We'd probably agree on more things than you realize...

Around here, I'm just suffering from "misunderstood artist" syndrome, with my different approach to things. Perhaps I secretly enjoy having overripe tomatoes and other expired produce hurled at me verbally on this board. I must, after all I keep coming back for more...

But in real life, I DO have quite a few of life's mysteries, political peccadillos and other issues nailed down pretty well
