Throughout the middle ages England, France, Germany and the other european nations were advancing in Medical science until the Catholic Church was given power, which restricted such things as post mortems. Why is it the Church restricts theories and such? If God and the bible were so true, why don't people already know about these things. And why does God and Christ try and restrict us knowing about these things?

By the way, Russia.com is overflowing with members activity. If you want a decent discussion go on there. Keep on here though maybe more will come and we can make it just as active.

"Why is it the Church restricts theories and such?"

Scientific statement: Because this can be observed, and that can also be observed, we conclude that it is true to say this and that are caused by those.

Christian statement: It is true that this is the case, because we say so, now don't argue or we'll torture you to death. By the way, got any money?

The two methods of thinking were irreconcilable.

Thank time it isn't the Middle Ages anymore, I'd of been hung drawn and quartered years ago, and maybe even a little B branded on my palm.

In addition to the above...
It is a puzzle why powerful members the three monotheistic religions have had such paranoia of alternative views.
We expect Hitler's Nazis to burn books, the Communists to persecute intellectuals, today's Politically-Correct to demand censorship, because these three "beliefs" are the opposite of sense and reason and are the preserve of the feeble-minded; but why should officials representing the faithful of three great religions behave in so childish a manner?
Copernicus & Gallileo were persecuted, a fatwa was issued against Salman Rushdie, a rather infantile attention-seeker who is surely too insignificant to damage a major religion, and anyone familiar with the Bible knows the reaction of the senior clerics in Judaea to the teachings of Jesus - a fellow Jew.

Surely those who rise to significant levels in organised religions should have enough faith in their own faith to cheerfully brush aside alternative opinions?

It begs the question: if they truly, confidently believe in their own religion(s) - what are they afraid of?
