Excuse me for my ignorance, but we are all human beings who learn new things everyday.

Therefore I'll ask for yor pardon when I ask: 'what is sami culture?'

Sami culture is what we in the US would call the Lapplanders in the north of Sweden. Not far from Northswede (tänker jag, men verkligen det vet jag inte).

They're the ones that run around with cool kaleidoscope jackets and hats while herding the hordes of reindeer that will ultimately migrate to Santa's workshop at the North Pole.

Only the finest Swedish reindeer are selected for the task.

You might have seen a children's book written and illustrated by Jan Brett that depicts some Lapp folks on the cover.

I am not an expert, by any means, and I'm sure some of the swedes (if they ever show up here) will correct me.

As I understand it, they are indigenous to northern Scandinavia. Think of them as the "american indians" of northern Scandinavia.

However, I don't think they are racially different in the sense that the aborigines of Australia have different skin tone and bone structure.

I do believe they have their own language, but I could be wrong about that.

When Chernobyl blew up years ago, there was great concern for the Sami population, as the radiation threatened to wipe out or make unusable the reindeer population.

I'm sure you can find more info on the web, or in a National Geographic. Or from the native Swedes (if they ever show up here).

The Sámi are indeed the indigenous people of Fennoscandinavia. I think the following site will give you some good basic information on them http://www.scandinavica.com/sami.htm

I have also heard that the Sámi do not really 'differ' in their physical appearance from other Scandinavians. However, I think it were mostly Swedish scientists, who wanted to prove the inferiority of the Sámi race by measuring bones, etc...so obviously not only the Nazis in Germany had such detestable theories.
