Yes you could say that english is a main language in school. You need to lern it if you whant to continue your studise.
You are in the 9 grade when you are 15 and after that you are going to the "gymnasiet" I think that is high school in the US.

Swedish "high school" is more specialized than American high school. Meaning, that the students study something specific, instead of studying a wide variety of things. (More like how college is in the US.) And then after "high school" you usually get a job, or go onto college (or go into the military, like my fiancé).

There are "English" classes in Swedish schools (like how we take French or German). And yes, as a native English speaker, you can take those classes, I had a friend who took them. But all the classes in school are in Swedish (unless you go to a special school).

But we can talk more about this with the other stuff via e-mail! Esp the stuff about making friends, etc etc

Plenty of cute guys. Don't worry about that!

And you can't drive in Sweden until you are 18!! My fiancé didn't get his drivers license until he was 22!!! It is expensive to go to driving school in Sweden. So many don't. It isn't necessary to know how to drive. There is plenty of public transportation, and it is the only way that people get around. There are not nearly as many cars on the roads in Sweden as in the US.

So here if you have a bike or use public transportation, you are just like everyone else. Or WALK!
No one will look down on you or think you are different, because it is what everyone else must do.

Hate to break it to you, but all schools in Sweden (except..well.. english schools) Have all their classes in swedish. So don´t hope that everyone will speak English cus they wont. BUT most of the teenagers speaks good english so it would not be a problem...

Just so you know...

bah, swedish teenagers has nothing against Americans. Just some of the younger commies can be a problem.

All you need to do is to speak slow, and let the other youths get to know you.
