Larsson back for Sweden

Euro 2008 - Larsson going to Euro 2008
Eurosport - Tue, 13 May 18:24:00 2008
Henrik Larsson has been included in Sweden's 23-man squad for next month's European Championship in a surprise move from coach Lars Lagerback.

The 36-year-old, currently playing for Helsingborg, retired from international football following his nation's second round exit from the World Cup in 2006.

But the former Celtic, Barcelona and Manchester United ace will make an unexpected return to the fold after Lagerback announced the group of players he will take to Austria and Switzerland.

"We've been playing well in Helsinborg, playing in the UEFA Cup in the autumn and also playing good football in the Swedish league," Larsson said.

"We've been playing football that has given me a taste for more. Football is so much fun. It's a joy."

Larsson is now set to team up with Zlatan Ibrahimovic after the Internazionale striker, who has been suffering from a knee injury, claimed he would be fit in time for the tournament.

But doubts remain over the fitness of West Ham midfielder Freddie Ljungberg, who is struggling after sustaining a rib injury at the end of last month.

Sweden kick off their Euro 2008 campaign against Greece on June 10 before playing Spain and Russia in the remainder of their Group D matches.

Larsson admitted he has not done much homework on Sweden's upcoming opponents: "I haven't seen much, to be honest. I don't have a great view of the teams, that's true. (But) they're three good teams."

"Now I've been called into the Euro squad it will be tough to make the first team but I'll do my best. The national team have had a fantastic qualifying campaign and beaten good teams."

Sweden squad:

Goalkeepers: Andreas Isaksson (Manchester City), Rami Shaaban (Hammarby), Johan Wiland (Elfsborg Boras) Defenders: Olof Mellberg (Aston Villa), Petter Hansson (Stade Rennes), Mikael Nilsson (Panathinaikos), Niclas Alexandersson (IFK Gothenburg), Andreas Granqvist (Helsingborg), Daniel Majstorovic (Basel), Fredrik Stoor (Rosenborg Trondheim), Mikael Dorsin (CFR Cluj) Midfielders : Tobias Linderoth (Galatasaray), Daniel Andersson (Malmo), Anders Svensson (Elfsborg Boras), Kim Kallstrom (Olympique Lyon), Christian Wilhelmsson (Deportivo Coruna), Fredrik Ljungberg (West Ham United), Sebastian Larsson (Birmingham City) Forwards: Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Inter Milan), Johan Elmander (Toulouse), Marcus Allback (FC Copenhagen), Markus Rosenberg (Werder Bremen), Henrik Larsson (Helsingborg)

Can only be good news for Sweden!
