Hi

I'm spending four days in Brugge over New Year (29th December to the

2nd Jan 2004). Can any one recommend what to do there for New Year? Does anything take place in the Old Town Market Square - Firework displays etc?

I'd be grateful for any other tips as this is my first visit to Belgium.

Regards

Vic

Hallo,

At the end ot year , many opportunities are there for festivities.
Tradionally there are lit fireworks of everywhere in Belgian cities on behalf of authorities like Brugge,Oostende,Gent at the town squares.
There are also many parties then.
One of the popular is in Oostende ( 15 km from Brugge ) , see http://www.oostende.net for more details ,at the casino.
5 ballrooms with different types of music ( 70s,80s,pop , techno ,.. ) and a variety of performances.
Hope this helps you on the way,

Greetings,

Kurt

I am also going to be visiting the wonderful town of Brugge over the new year, can someone please tell me what opening hours of local shops and restaurants are? Do they open on News Years eve or Day?
Also will the fabulous skate rink still be in the St Simon square?

Many Thanks
