mykfin's photo of Helsinki in the photo albums evoked fond and happy remembrances of my visit to finland in 1995.

I went to Finland as a business delegation to OUTOKUMPU OY.
We stayed in Hotel HELKA in Helsinki.
It was in October 1995,the weather was sleazy,
temp 8-10 degrees.

I roamed about the town square, the pier, bought some souvenir from a row of souvenir shops on the quayside,
the underground church, a sculpture of steel tubes,
the Sami museum and the history of Finland museum.
I still have a photo taken with me posing with the life-size
statue's of a sami couple kept in the Sami Museum.
I was fascinated to see a fishing net 6000 years old,
made of some wood fiber, in one of the museums.
And also the replica of a hut used by ancient people in that area.

I enjoyed the long bus journey from Helsinki to POURRI on the west coast to see the copper refining plant of OUTOKUMPU OY.

My finnish colleague said that they have virtually an empty country. True, they have a population of 7 million, out of which 90 % live in Helsinki.

The lake waters are black and oily.
Lots of lakes and lots of forests.

The Finnish people are very reticent and reserved.
Not so friendly to foreigners, especially the females.
Well my experience could have been unique.

Like to visit that calm country again.
Best wishes to all Finns.

clarification

When I wrote the waters of the lakes in Finland looked black and oily,I meant that "to look at".
I defenitely did not mean that the waters were actually "black & oily". Probably, it looked so in poor sun light. But the waters in lake Lusserne was brighter and clearer, may be because, again, due to good sunlight.

I know that the Finns take extra-ordinary care regarding environmental pollution, and Finland is among the least polluted country in the world.
