Hi, Tandir, I am in Spain right now, but my bf is in Sweden. I hope to visit him again at Christmas.

I am glad that you share my opinion on "barefoot vs shoes" thing. Once my bf and I were invited to the dinner and few drinks to our friends place, and the hostess even commented that I had nice feet.

Is this a custom in South Africa as well? as to the broken glass, do not think about it much. Do you now take your shoes off when visiting somebody in SA? Why do not you try a party at your place and encourage everybody to remove their shoes upon coming? That may be funny:-)) And maybe some even will think about the usefullness of this custom

LaGirl, it seems to me that in some parts of the USA, removing shoes is also a custom, like in Alaska or Minnesota, and ever more people consider to introduce this policy. Well, I live in Spain myself, and it is just unbelievable that women here do not remove their boots even in winter, when visiting. I really cannot explain this.

And by coincidence, Minnesota is full of Scandinavians.

quite fun to see girls' talk. In China, we take off shoes and change to a sandal worn at home, whatever as a guest or at our own places. I'll feel uncomfortable without shoes even at home.

Hi.
I just wanted to say that for fancier parties here in Sweden bringing a pair of shoes that hasn't been worn outdoors and changing into them upon arrival is acceptable. So you bring the strappy heels and put them on once you are inside the door

Yes, that sometimes is doable... but it kind of a grey area to know when that is appropriate as well, donīt you think?

For those who are getting all freaked up and worried, no you keep your shoes at clubs/restaurants and such, and whenever you want. It is when etering a HOME (not a hotel room) you take your shoes off!
