Question

Hi,

I am preparing for a trip to Sweden to work for a year and will like to know some information on the work culture and standard of living in Sweden, and will appreciate if anyone who's familiar with these two aspects can help me on that. Alternatively, it will be great if anyone can refer me to any websites (in English) that discuss the different aspects of life there.

Thanks.

Feel free to ask (more specific) questions... there are some Swedes (like me) around here.

And by the way, welcome to both Sweden, and sweden.com!

About work culture

Hello,

Having arrived from other country and working here for the past 1 year, may be I can give you a small insight about work culture here. Manpower/labour is expensive in sweden. So working hours are very important. Working hours are very strictly maintained. most jobs have 40 hrs per week, but again it depends on what kind of job you are doing. But people tend to take work seriously and put in their time productively and so they dont work over time. Work culture in general, I found very good, I been working with swedes all these days and they are really good, I should say. They are very much organised, well planned, and value the work all do. They treat you as an individual, and mostly noone will boss around you too. That is a small (dis)advantage I found here. I think at least that in some cases, someone has to be the boss, or the work wil never be done. But this aspect has never brought any trouble to the work I am doing.

About the secod part of your question, I did not get what you are exactly looking for. But about the web sites, most things are web oriented here, so if you are a person sticking on to internet, then I think you will get what you are looking for. But it s always good, if you learn a few swedish words.

If you are looking for something specific or would like to know more get in touch with me at narutumy@yahoo.com and i will be glad to get back. cya later then..
