Hey Abby, how's going. I have lived in the North Island (Hamilton) for 18 years and am now living and studying in the South Island (Dunedin), have spent a LOT of time exploring in both islands so I think I'm kinda fairly qualified to know what's what. What sort of thing are you looking at doing? Are you coming over to work or play or both and where?

If you're looking to work then Queenstown, Wanaka, Methven (S.Island) or Ohakune, Whakapapa (N.Island) are all good options. They're all really ski towns. Queenstown and Wanaka are all year 'round tourist orientated towns with no real off season. You would run into a heap of people like yourself there, people working for a few years, on gap years, tourists etc. If you really want to meet NZ people and get into the culture then I'd have to recommend Wanaka or Dunedin. But it all depends what you want to do.

Hi! Thanks for your reply. i've sent off for loads of information about travelling in new zealand (especially brochures on gap year projects). one of the ones i'm interested in is a gap year project called BUNAC where you can go to new zealand and work for a year; every 3 months you swap employers (that way i get to see alot of new zealand and earn money too!!)
i take it you love living in new zealand then. i think the thing i find the most appealing about it is that it's so far away from england and it seems like such a beautiful country.
it was nice 'chatting' to you!
