Shopping
Shopping is a very popular pastime in Hong Kong. If shopping is your thing, then you cant miss out on Kowloon. Kowloon has thousands of shops that line the streets around the Tsim Sha Tsui area. Nathan Rd. is probably the best known street for fashion shops, while areas like Sham Shui Po and Mong Kok are better for electrical items. Mong Kok is a good place to find some excellent bargains. The popular market in Stanley on the other side of Hong Kong island is reachable by bus, it is a much quieter village, but it can become a little crowded on weekends when tourists flock to the beach.
Hiking
Hong Kong is not really a destination that attracts visitors for its magnificent outdoor activities, but if you feel the urge for stretching your legs, there are some wonderful landscapes that will allow you to do so. There is a very popular hiking trail that starts and ends in Mui Wo (Silvermine Bay), It is a 70 kilometer hiking trail with some easy, difficult and at times torturous hiking. The trail is divided into 12 sections with maps available from the Government Publications office. A good hiker will be able to cover the whole trial in just a few days, but it is best to take your time, enjoying the nature and views and camping at the designated spots.
Cycling
Cycling is possible in the New Territories, there are some very nice trails and quiet roads that offer breathtaking views. Bikes can be hired at the Tolo Harbour.
Water sports
Hong Kong has some beautiful beaches, particularly on the outlying islands, with lots of opportunities for watersports, such as, windsurfing, sailing, kite surfing, fishing and catamaran. Watersport equipment can be hired at Stanley Beach and Tun Wan on Cheung Chau.
Swimming
Whether you are a fitness freak, desperate for exercise, or just looking for a place to escape the heat, Hong Kong has a number of beautiful public pools, especially in Kowloon. Pools are open on account of the weather, so best is to phone first to check on their hours. Most public swimming pools are accessible by public transport.
Water skiing
There are lots of places in Hong Kong to water ski. The best spot is perhaps Deep Water Bay, it is easily accessible and features the excellent Deep Water Speed Boat Company. They charge around HK$580 per hour. All people are welcome, even beginners. Single and double skis are available. Water skiing can be great fun and can be enjoyed by the whole family.
