Discover the magnificent city of Christchurch

Christchurch is unlike any other city you've ever imagined. When you visit, you'll find an unusual but charming blend of history and modern conveniences. Here you will find the hustle and bustle of any city with all the needed facilities to provide the ease of modern living but with the tranquility of a small town which relieves you of the stress and frustrations that you would usually encounter in a thriving metropolis. Christchurch has a way of making you want to come back again and again.

One of the most notable features of Christchurch is the abundance of floral delights. At any time of the day you can make your way down to the Botanical Gardens, Mona Vale, Riccarton Bush or take in any of the delightful private gardens which are opened to the public in spring. The gardens make a delightful setting for a picnic or simply a peaceful walk or a place to get some quiet away from normal city life. The 500 acre Hagley Park is also worth a visit.

Once you've unwound in the peaceful gardens, there are also a lot of other sites and attractions worth visiting. The International Antarctic Centre is the only attraction of its kind. Allowing you to get a real feel for what life is like in Antarctica, you will be able to experience below zero temperatures and an Antarctic storm, among other things.

Orana Park is a little piece of Africa - a place where wild animals are allowed to roam free. But more authentic is the Willowbank Wildlife Reserve which has a wonderful mix of native flora and fauna all presented from a Maori perspective. Other attractions are the Southern Encounter Aquarium, the Christchurch Tramway, the Canterbury Museum, the Christchurch Art Gallery, the Arts Center, the Christchurch Cathedral and Air Force World. Another great way to spend an afternoon is by organizing a Hot Air Balloon ride and seeing Christchurch from an entirely different perspective.

Of course, Christchurch also has normal city things such as shopping, cinemas, theatres, restaurants, gambling and nightclubs but it is so much more than just a city. Only a visit to Christchurch - the largest city in New Zealand's South Island, will help you to truly appreciate it.
