Getting around with New Zealand transport
By Air
The majority of international visitors to New Zealand arrive through Auckland International Airport. It is possible to fly into Christchurch and there are a few flights from Australia into Wellington and Queenstown. The two major airlines that serve New Zealand are Air New Zealand and Qantas.
By Train
There are some exceptional train services in New Zealand, passing all the way through superb scenery that can't be seen by road. Long-distance trains are mostly operated by Tranz Scenic. All the trains are very comfortable and have large panoramic windows to ensure a breathtaking view. Most trains also have an open-air viewing platform, an observation car and a buffet car.
By Bus
Intercity and Newmans are New Zealand's two biggest coach networks, running several routes between cities a day. Both companies offer advance-purchase discounts as well as several flexible pass and sightseeing options. People who would like to transport their bicycles with them, may feel free to do so. Bicycles are transported in the luggage bays for small fees.
By Car
There are dozens of car rentals in New Zealand. You will be required to show a legal drivers license and id of your home country. New Zealand's roads are very well maintained and you shouldn't find it too difficult to drive in New Zealand if you can drive on the left side of the road.
By Bicycle
There are numerous places that rent out bicycles as well as motorcycles. When hiring a motorcycle, you will be required to show a legal drivers license and id document from your home country. You should not have any problems with riding a bicycle or motorcycle in New Zealand.

There are many ferries that run between the islands. The two main ferry networks that run between the islands are the 'Interislander Ferry' and the 'The Lynx' catamaran. Both foot passengers and vehicles are welcome.
