Helsingborg
The southernmost part of Sweden and the closest point to Denmark, Helsingborg is a historical town with a wonderfully cheerful atmosphere. Helsingborg is so close to Denmark that you can easily see the Danish city of Elsinore - otherwise known as Helsingør - on the other side of the strait of Öresund when you stand on the shores of the city.
What may first strike many visitors to this beautiful little town is the charming old houses and the scenic coastline. The buildings are a peculiar blend of stone-build churches and fortresses in the city center and modern, commercial buildings not too far away. While the majority of the streets are wide and spacious, there are numerous small alley-ways too. The Helsingborg waterfront is popular with visitors and is a great place to shop, stroll and to generally pass time. Sofiero Slott is a beautiful castle with stunning gardens. Once the king's summer residence, visitors enjoy touring the gardens, seeing art exhibitions and even enjoying a meal in the top notch castle restaurant. Then there is Kärnan, otherwise known as 'the Keep'. Kärnan is large tower which was once part of a large castle that surrounded it. Today the castle is no more but the 'keep' is interesting to see.
Another interesting attraction is that of the Church of St Mary which has interesting architecture as well as religious significance. For something a little different, the Fredriksdal Open-Air Museum and Botanical Garden is a great choice. Or if you crave something a little bit more lively, you can try the Vasatorp golf course. Whatever the case, you can be sure you will enjoy your time spent in Helsingborg.
